Teratological Prototype is an installation composed of functional laboratory equipment, a free-standing tent, and a video work. All of the elements in this work support the growth of a single tissue culture sculpture: a Teratological Prototype. The prototype consists of a P4HP bioabsorbable polymer scaffold sculpted in the form of a teratoma, and seeded with mammalian cells that grow, live in the gallery environment. This work mobilises the notion of remixing the laboratory environment as a critical endeavour in an effort to create an interface between non-specialists and both the ‘real’ and mediated representations of the laboratory.
