Stage two further explored the potential of using tissue culture to create artefacts that consisted of living cells and human artefacts. In this stage the artists grew muscle, epidermal and connective tissue over bio-polymers and glass figurines. The use of bio-polymers provided increased control over the final shape of the structures. As the cell cultures developed, they grew inside the scaffolding as well as around it and had a better ‘grip’ on the structure. The result was a collection of images that documented the ‘fusion’ of living tissue with human artefacts.
